Our Mission

Ostrom drives the green energy transition by making renewable energy more accessible and inclusive. By creating a seamless, multilingual energy management platform, we help consumers switch, track and reduce their electricity consumption effortlessly.

As a result, we will offset over 489,000 tons of CO2 per year by 2025 in Germany alone, equivalent to 3 million trees annually.

Founding History

Matthias and Karl founded Ostrom in December 2020, aiming at upending the German energy market.

The idea originated from Matthias while consulting energy companies at Oliver Wyman. In December 2020, realizing how highly bureaucratic and outdated processes were, for example, 90% offline marketing budgets or extremely manual backend processes, he decided to move on and create a better energy utility for Germany.

Karl joined several weeks later to support user acquisition and UX. After experiencing several B2C startups and joining the Berlin cohort of Entrepreneur First, he was striving to found his own startup. After the development period, they released an early MVP in May 2021.

Within only a few months, Ostrom provided green electricity for several customers while the team continued to refine its product and operations.
